Hanlon ’77 has announced plans to retire at the end of the 2024-2024 academic year—a full decade after his inauguration in 2013 as the 18th president in Dartmouth’s Wheelock Succession. Philip James Hanlon (born April 10, 1955) is an American mathematician, computer scientist, and academic administrator, currently serving as the 18th president of Dartmouth College, his alma mater, since June 2013. Previously, he served as the 13th provost and executive vice president for academic affairs of the University of Michigan from 2010 to 2013.
