I have not come across any problems with this arrangement and it has been used by many arm manufacturers like SME and Linn. There should be no problem making your own with your preferred plugs and conductors. If the Technics arm has the same wall thickness (1mm) and its diameter is 12mm (a guess, please correct me), then it has a cross section area of 44mm^2.
